Gemini was my first show dog. He had a number of health problems, but man did that dog love
to show. He had a pretty good ratio of wins in between dealing with his health issues. It was
obvious early on that he was never going to be used for breeding, but he was a show dog at heart
and so that's what I did with him.
The very first time I took a dog in the ring, we won big. He won a large puppy class and then went
on to take Winners Dog in tough competition. Here I was, up against professional handlers and people
that had been show dogs for years, even decades, and I was there with my first show dog on my very
first time in the ring. It was amazingly exhilirating. I loved it and I still do today.
Gemini never finished his championship. He had a major and most of his singles. He needed one major
and a single for a total of 4 points to finish. I retired him because he was not a good traveler and
riding in the car was very stressful for him. At the time, I lived on the coast and going anywhere
meant a long car ride and it was not worth putting him through that - even though he loved to be in
the ring.
Gemini lived to be almost 8 and died of an oral melanoma. You can read the details of his case history on
my Memorials page.
